Two gold medals for Barcaffè at the International Coffee Tasting Competition

Barcaffè espresso won two gold medals for its premium blend Barcaffè Prestigio and economy blend Barcaffè Tradicione at the International Coffee Tasting Competition, which took place November 29-30 as organised by the International Coffee Institute.

The tasting committee evaluated coffee based on specific criteria such as taste, flavour intensity, structure and foam stability. Barcaffè is already a bearer of 6 gold medals from previous International Coffee Cup Tasting competitions, now adding two more gold medals to their collection this year.

The International Institute of Coffee Tasters (IIAC) was founded in 1993 as a non-profit organisation, funded solely on the basis of membership fees. The aim of the IIAC is to establish and share scientific methods for the sensory evaluation of coffee. The organisation has always focused on espresso coffee and perfecting a specific tasting method. During its operation, it has organised hundreds of courses which issued coffee tasting licences for coffee operators and aficionados from around the world.
During its 20 years of work, over 10,000 experts from more than 40 countries participated in the IIAC team and performed important tasks abroad, especially in large coffee-drinking countries such as Japan, the USA and Germany, as well as coffee-producing countries such as Columbia, Brazil and Mexico.

The International Institute of Coffee Tasters (IIAC) has subsidiaries in Japan, Korea, Taiwan and China. Among other scientific research activities supported by the Higher Scientific Council, the IIAC has perfected testing to enable the optimal evaluation of espresso coffee, and is working on a study of the interrelationship of quality labels obtained by chemical analysis of the sensory properties of coffee.
